Do you want an idea of how the early RotoRank projections compare to national fantasy baseball draft guides? Here is a look at my top 75 draft picks for 2008 based solely on past performance. Future projections will attempt to predict new player trends...

Most fantasy baseball guides have already made their projections for the 2008 season without incorporating all of the information available during the MLB Spring Training Season. In most cases, these magazines rely on using a flat two-year or three-year average across the entire fantasy baseball player pool.
RotoRank takes a similar approach to its initial rankings; however, I evaluate the top 400 players on a case-by-case basis to determine if I should use a three-year average, a two-year average, or some modified version of their most current set of statistics.
The following is a list of the Top 75 fantasy baseball players ranked using the historic average statistics and the RotoRank model for a 15 Team Rotisserrie Scoring Fantasy Baseball League that starts 14 hitters and 9 pitchers.
The following table contains the rankings for three of the most popular fantasy baseball scoring systems: 5x5 Roto, 4x4 Roto, and Fantasy Points. You will see that most of the premier players from the past three years will be present, but they might be in the order that you would expect. Remember, RotoRank utilizes actual statistics to determine its rankings, not perceived value. Most draft lists will have Hanley Ramirez, Jimmy Rollins, and Jose Reyes rounding out the top 4 of their fantasy baseball draft lists, but if you take a close look at the scoring categories, their only real dominance lies in Stolen Bases. The top power hitters and power pitchers dominate almost all of the scoring categories.
