Owners who drafted Brett Myers were put into an awful spot by the Phillies.
The Phillies should have shown a lot more patience with him. My biggest question about the whole situation is why Adam Eaton was never considered for this "demotion" to the bullpen.
If you have a reserve spot open, he is not a bad Free Agent pick-up. Reportedly, he said he did not want to stat again this year, unless a major injury hit the starting rotation. Everyone saw how bad Ryan Madson did in that scenario last year. Very few pitchers can tolerate that type of "6th Starter" assignment.
If I drafted Brett Myers, I would have at least held onto him until mid-May or early-June. He is wasted as a setup man, but he could get you some nice vulture wins and strikeouts from his new assignment, since he will likely pitch at least three times each week.
If he gets his mechanics in order by mid-May (which would mean his ERA would be close to 3.00, then he'll likely return to the starting rotation by the All-Star break, if not sooner.
Good Luck!
