I got offered Soriano for Crawford, don't really need stolen bases that bad with ichiro and Victorino, but I lost some power in trading texiera for ichiro. What should I do about that offer? Help please.

Hi Mikey,

Sorry for the delay. My new message notifications were not working properly.

Soriano will eventually go on a roll, just like many other veterans that are struggling. Soriano and Crawford were rated neck and neck going into the season. The main difference between Soriano and Crawford is Power versus Batting Average. Both are good base stealers, although Craword has a slight edge, but Soriano makes that up with higher RBI totals.

Grabbing Ichiro definitely helps your speed and power, but to decide whether youshould make the deal, I'd need more context. If it is a 5x5 Roto Scoring League, I'd probably go with Soriano. If you are in a head to head league, the combination of Ichiro, Crawford, and Victorino could help you dominate Runs, SB, and AVG on a weekly basis.

If you are desperate for power, look into trading for someone like Gary Sheffield, Manny Ramirez, or Lance Berkman. All three of these sluggers are off to slow start, but all should end the season with an average above .300 and 35+ HR.

Hope this advice isn't too late for you...

I should be able to respond more quickly to future requests.

Good Luck!

Gerry

I also have a trade dilemma...
I'm in a head to head league and someone wants me to give them Josh Beckett (on the DL) and Jorge Posada and give me Bengie Molina, Mark Teixeira, and Sammy Sosa.
I really need the power numbers, but can I afford to give up two of my top players?

Here is the rest of my team:
Jorge Posada
(NYY - C)
Rich Aurilia
(SF - 1B,2B,3B,SS)
Robinson Canó
(NYY - 2B)
Pedro Feliz
(SF - 3B)
Jimmy Rollins
(Phi - SS)
Adam Dunn
(Cin - LF)
Corey Patterson
(Bal - CF)
Eric Byrnes
David Wright
(NYM - 3B)
Richie Sexson
(Sea - 1B)
Chone Figgins
(LAA - 2B,3B,LF,CF)

Pitching
Josh Beckett
(Bos - SP) DL
Javier Vázquez
(CWS - SP)
Andy Pettitte
(NYY - SP)
Trevor Hoffman
(SD - RP)
Scot Shields
(LAA - RP)
Manny Corpas
(Col - RP)
Chad Qualls
(Hou - RP)
Greg Maddux
(SD - SP)
Huston Street
(Oak - RP) DL
Chien-Ming Wang
(NYY - SP)

Well, you do have a tough choice.

One key thing that would have been good to know is how deep your bench can be. Which players will you be cutting to make room for the extra player?

If that deal was offered to me, I'd likely take the offense.

Molina and Posada are not much different in the grand scheme of things. Posada has had a very good start, but his BA will likely dip. Molina has similar power numbers, so I don't think you lose much at catcher. Sammy Sosa definitely makes up the difference there, and then some!

The tough choice is deciding whether Beckett will return to his Cy Young pace after he returns from injury. I don't think you can count on much more than 20 Wins from Beckett, so he only has 13 left in him. On the other hand, Mark Teixeira is off to a slow start again in 2007, but he could really give you a boost during the summer months when he gets hot.

I'd make the deal, but then I'd definitely look to package Patterson and Sexson in a deal for a decent SP who may be off to a slow start. Someone like Kazmir perhaps.

You also need to consider the FA depth at SP. Unless your league tracks Holds, there is no need to be carrying Manny Corpas or Chad Qualls. I would try to add as many decent SP free agents I could, to help lessen the loss of Beckett until you can make a trade.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the quick reply!
Looks like Patterson would have to be the one to go, but I will miss his SB.
Our league does track holds, so I need to keep those guys, but I did neglect to mention Jason Schmidt (DL) because I was going to drop him and pick up Moyer. But I am having second thoughts. Is he worth waiting for?

Moyer had an awful week, so this isn't the prime time to grab him.

Schmidt has more upside, but if you need pitching now, then you might want to consider cutting Schmidt. Moyer will not replace the K's you lose from Schmidt, but he'll get you some wins.
