I'm in a 14-tm 5x5 Roto keeper league;(c,1b,2b,3b,ss,ci,mi,4-of,u,8-p; 8 reserves); 7 keepers + a 21-round draft. Here are my keepers:

Peavy, Jake SP SD
Verlander, Justin SP DET
Lackey, John SP LAA
Zambrano, Carlos SP CHC
Nathan, Joe RP MIN
Ramirez, Manny OF BOS
Suzuki, Ichiro OF SEA

How would you draft the last 21 rounds? I have the 5th pick in each of the first 4 rounds, then it snakes after that.

Keeper leagues are always interesting. The goal in your league setup would be to maximize the value in your 7 keepers, then draft the best available talent to fill your needs.

Your 7 keepers are definitely high quality. You are pitching heavy at this point, but that isn't bad if your league allows trading. Take the best available player even if its a pitcher. You could always deal Peavy if you need a stud hitter after the draft runs its course.

In a perfect scenario, I'd focus on 1 speedster, 2 power hitters and a closer for your first 4 rounds...

Good Luck!

I'm in a keeper league and we only get to keep 3 players. This is a new league for me and I inherited this team. The keepers I chose were:

Alex Rodriguez
Josh Beckett
Daisuke Matsuzaka

I'm concerned about Beckett's back, should I be?

In looking at the scoring sytem for my league it seems that pitchers have the oppurtunity to receive negative points in many categories (see below). That along with the strikeouts counting against my hitters is a concern in my draft strategy. Any suggestions for this type of scoring system? Is there an easy way to factor the strikeouts when ranking my hitters? Anything in the pitching categories that should guide my pitching choices?

Hitting:
1B - Singles 1 point
2B - Doubles 2 points
3B - Triples 3 points
BB - Walks (Batters) 1 point
CYC - Hitting for the Cycle 20 points
GSHR - Grand Slam Home Runs 15 points
HP - Hit by Pitch .5 points
HR - Home Runs 4 points
KO - Strikeouts (Batter) -1 point
R - Runs 1 point
RBI - Runs Batted In 1 point
SB - Stolen Bases 1 point
SF - Sacrifice Flies .5 points

Pitching:
B - Balks -1 point
BBI - Walks Issued (Pitchers) -.5 points
BS - Blown Saves -5 points
CG - Complete Games 10 points
ER - Earned Runs -.5 points
HRA - Home Runs Allowed -3 points
INN - Innings 1 point
K - Strikeouts (Pitcher) 1 point
L - Losses -8 points
NH - No-Hitters 25 points
QS - Quality Starts 5 points
S - Saves 10 points
SO - Shutouts 8 points
W - Wins 15 points
WP - Wild Pitches -.5 points

Hi Trevor.

RotoRank has estimated strikeouts for each hitter, so if you plug -1 into the Struckout field when using the fantasy points scoring system, you'll see where all of your players rank for your league's scoring system.

Keeping pitchers in a fantasy point league isn't always the best move, but if you didn't have much to choose from, Beckett and Matsuzaka are good choices. Most teams like to rotate in two start pitchers in fantasy point leagues, but at least your league penalizes that strategy to some degree.

As for Beckett's bad back, it doesn't sound too bad yet. Anyone can get a stiff back. But if you have another stud hitter to keep, why take any chances!

If you use the scarcity report for your league, I think you can come up with a good strategy for your draft.

Good Luck!
