5 Keepers. Who should I keep?!?!
Posted: Thursday, February 19, 2009 10:17 PM (EST)
When evaluating keepers, I always try to simulate what round each player would be drafted in. In the ideal world, you have 5 keepers that would all be drafted in Top 3 rounds.

Hanley Ramirez is likely #1 overall pick in 2009, so he is a definite keeper.

Prince Fielder will likely be a 2nd or 3rd round pick, so he is a keeper.

John Lackey can easily be a 4th round choice if he stays healthy for entire 2009 season.

Your final two spots should be selected from the following 4 players. Whichever 2 you like best, you should keep.

Chipper Jones is definitely a Top 4 round pick if he stays healthy for 450+ AB. He will also help anchor your team BA.

Jose Lopez could definitely be a Top 100 player, and 2B is more difficult to fill than SP or OF, so he is a solid choice.

Justin Verlander had a bad 2008, but most experts likely consider him a top 5 round pick.

Magglio Ordonez produces in 4 hitting categories, so if he stays healthy, he can easily post Top 50 statistics.

Good Luck!

5 Locks
Brandon Phillips (Cin - 2B)
José Reyes (NYM - SS)
Álex Ríos (Tor - OF)
Adam Dunn (Ari - 1B,OF)
Corey Hart (Mil - OF)

1 Very Strong
Carlos Peña (TB - 1B)

1 Pot Luck
Víctor Martínez (Cle - C,1B) - If you think he will return to form, he is obvious choice.
Pat Burrell (TB - OF) - Likely good for 30+ HR
Chris Young (SD - SP) - He has the leastamount of question marks from your current staff. Obviously pitching was not lucky for you in 2008.
Adrián Béltre (Sea - 3B) - Contract year usually motivates him...

Good Luck!

Who would you keep from this?

R. Martin $23
D. Wright $38
O. Cabrera $7
R. Church $5
J Dye $5
M Holliday $36
C Figgins $22
Capps $6
B Fuentes $5
Fr. Rodriquez $21

This is a 12 man league with a $260 cap. 5x5 rotisserie. These are what I paid for the guys last year.

Thanks for any help

In salary cap league, you want to lock up your best cheap players, so you have room to bid on the superstars.

H. Kendrick $6
O. Cabrera $7
J Dye $5
Capps $6
B Fuentes $5

Would be my 5 keepers. With $29, you get 5 quality players who all have starting gigs. Fuentes and Capps give you a solid base in Saves. Kendrick and Cabrera address your 2B and SS position, and Dye is good for 25+ HR in 2009.

Wright might go for $40 or $41 this year, but that's not bad. Kendrick and Cabrera could easily go for $10 to $15, depending on when they were brought up in the auction. The same could be said for the other 3 keepers!

Good Luck!
